  1. When I consider hope, I think of the story of the strange case of the Great Emu War of 1932 in Australia. Faced with an onslaught of emus decimating crops, soldiers were deployed to combat these feathered foes. Despite their best efforts, the emus proved nearly invincible, dodging bullets and outmaneuvering trucks. In the face of this absurdity, hope seemed futile, yet it was the farmers’ unyielding spirit and resilience that eventually led to innovative solutions. Their determination to protect their livelihoods, despite the odds and the comedic nature of their adversary, exemplifies that even in the most hopeless and bizarre situations, the human spirit finds a way to triumph.
